THE castle DE SIMIANE, IN VALRÉAS, PROVENCE
A town in the heart of the enclaves of the Popes.
Valréas, with its 10,000 inhabitants, is the most populous town in the Enclave des Papes. Located in the heart of the Enclave des Papes and the Drôme Provençale, Valréas boasts a unique heritage linked to the history of the Papacy in Provence, a remarkable natural setting not far from Mont Ventoux, and also a very mild climate. Valréas has just been awarded its third flower! The town is a living area that benefits from an ideal geographical position between Lyon and Marseille, near the Rhône valley, one of the main trade routes in France.
Valréas also offers leisure and cultural activities (cinema, theatres, museum, numerous sports facilities, etc.) and is located in the heart of a dynamic agricultural and wine-growing area (truffles, wines, lavender, aromatic herbs, etc.). Numerous festive events (Nuit du Petit Saint Jean, Festival des Nuits de l’Enclave, Corso de la lavande, etc.), fairs and weekly markets punctuate the life of Valréas, which is working to revive local commerce and to promote a range of quality local products. The town is experiencing a tourist boom around its historic centre (built in the shape of a snail, typical of Provençal villages) where the majestic castle de Simiane is enthroned!
Valréas, an ideal pied à terre!
